As we grew up, we always had lunch with brown bags at school. It wasn't until high school that we were able to buy a school lunch. But the best thing about having a school lunch every day was to choose this year's lunch box. Which usually comes with a matching thermos! These are the little things…
And when I was teaching, I always bagged it every day. The school where I taught didn't have a cafeteria and with only 40 minutes for lunch, there was no way to go out for something to eat. So I was always looking for ways to change the same old lunch. Without forgetting superb reusable containers to take my lunch to school every day.
I have learned in my years as a summer camp counselor and teacher that if food sounds fun, children are more likely to try it! And the bento boxes provide the perfect amount of each food to try… and you can put the food together to make it fun!
Cat in the hat Bento Box-2 I made these simple fruit skewers inspired by the cat in the hat, using bananas, grapes and delicious strawberries. After cutting the strawberries and bananas, alternate them on a skewer or toothpick to make the cat's hat. Then finish with a grape for the cat's head. The perfect way to add a little more fruit to your child's lunch!
It was the first time I used a bento box and I like the way they fit together perfectly. Plus, they have hard sides and cover, which means more broken berries!
To accompany a Dr Seuss theme for this bento box… we have the Cat in the Hat fruit skewers, plus ham and a hard-boiled egg to represent green eggs and ham. Add a few slices of cheese, vegetables and you will have a well-balanced lunch!
